Celebration of Lughnasa: A Festival Full of Abundance and Reverence for Mother Goddess Earth

By: Natalie Viglione

The Celebration of Lughnasa is filled with reverence for our Mother Goddess Earth and the Abundant Energies rising once again...

In the northern hemisphere, as summer reaches its peak and the days begin to shorten, we find ourselves approaching Lughnasa (said like loo-nah-sah), which is spelled many ways like Lughnasadh, for example. Lughnasa is the more ancient spelling so we'll use that as well.

This time has also become known as Lammas; however, "Lughnasa" was changed to Lammas much later and is a more "recent" name that carries heavy religious undertones, so I choose to use the ancient name that the Celtic and pre-Celtic ancestors used in the organic solar calendar of the Eightfold Wheel of the Year.

It is the beginning of the harvest season and Lughnasa typically spans the six weeks leading up to the Autumn Equinox (which is called Mabon). This first harvest feast and festival celebrates the first fruits that can now be enjoyed, the fields of barley growing under the warm summer sun, and honoring the generosity and the abundant gifts of the Good Earth.

It is a time to acknowledge your harvest! What have you been cultivating this year so far... since many of us aren't farmers growing or harvesting all of our own food, the harvests have definitely been disconnected from us the most.

Of course, many are totally connected to this through cultivation of foods, but there is always this looming "must make money" rather than just sharing foods harvested and all being a part of the process in a village.

When we don't live in villages, we get removed from organic cycles.

The Wheel of the Year workshop series (which isn't work at all, but rather a celebration!) is about connecting us back into that organic and natural rhythym once again!

This is a painting of the true Spiritual Mother, Eiru (said like air-roo), and is also connected into the story of Lughnasa. Eiru is connected into the lineage known as the Tu'Atha de (which translates roughly to "tribe of the gods"). Eiru is known to be the Protector of Ireland (and where Ireland got its name!). The Tu'Atha is the Original Tribe that came through the stargates in the region, a root race of beings, and that entire region was called Albion (Albion is the ancient name for the region includes Ireland, Scotland, England, and more). If you'd like to envision the Tu'Atha tribe of Light Beings in a human-like form, a great example would be Tolkien's Elven Race.

The Tu’Atha originally kept the red-haired goddess lineage sacred, and were known as the Mother of Dragons lineage. The Tu'Atha came BEFORE the Tu'Atha de Danaan tribe... and this is connected to Lugh and Lughnasa...

What is Lughnasa?

Lughnasa is kicked off and celebrated on August 1-2, however, it marks the first harvest festival, and lasts the entire month of August, and leads up to the next harvest that commences on the Autumn Equinox (which has also been known as Mabon). Lughnasa is a reminder of the cycles of nature and our deep connection to the planetary Soul that we've called Earth, Tara or Gaia.

This Sacred Holy Day was created after the fall (the 'fall' meaning when this world was sadly disconnected from the Core Realms, or Inner Realms), and a rip in the fabric of all of creation began to get larger and larger because of an invading vile faction from other realms. There is a deeper meaning that will seem like it's just an "entertaining fairytale" type of story that we would tell children before bedtime, but hidden within the myths and legends are hidden codes where we can find the truth.

To some humans, it may seem crazy to think that giants with "supernatural" or magickal abilities are nonhuman beings from other realms that came in to hijack and enslave Earth-Tara-Gaia, but to those of us who were there and remember and are here in this timeline to tell these stories, it is the truth that needs to be exposed more and more. It should be a relief to think that the horrid things we see in this realm where there is way too much unnecessary suffering is NOT THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE, and that it is, in fact, being course corrected as this article is being typed!

Lughnasa means ‘the commemoration of Lugh’ and Lugh (said like loo) is an Irish solar god (a "solar god" means "Of the Sun" or "Of the Light") and Lugh was known as a "god of justice" that held great courage and skill to go up against vile and malevolent forces. A "hero" for lack of a better word, and was seen as a god (just as there are known goddesses) due to the fact that he was far larger in size and and held the secrets of advanced technology (which is what we call magick) that comes from other worlds. This magick (or advanced tech) has always been available to us humans, too, but the truth that it exists and HOW to make it come to life has been totally oppressed and hidden (this is known as 'occult' wisdom, as the word occult means hidden).

WHAT DOES LUGH'S NAME MEAN?

Lugh's name is suggested as coming from a Proto-Indo-European root *(h2)lewgh- meaning "to bind by oath" (compare Old Irish luige and Welsh llw, both meaning "oath, vow, act of swearing" and derived from a suffixed Proto-Celtic form, *lugiyo-, "oath"), so Lugh is a name that means a "god of oaths" or "one who has a sworn duty and oath."

IT'S A TITLE, NOT A NAME.

As an Oracle of Original Creation, what I know from the insights I've gleaned, the being that has been called Lugh was more of a title, not the name. As a "half god" he swore an oath to help protect the region of Albion (Albion is the ancient name for the region that includes Ireland but is far larger than that), even though he was the offspring of the hostile invaders. These invaders raped and pillaged and forced themselves upon those that were here at that time creating a new hybrid race of beings, half human/half "god" for lack of a better way to describe them. These far larger beings aren't fiction but fact, you can read more on that here.

a-map-of-albion

Lugh rose up against an evil nonhuman being from other realms tthat was known as Balor (the etymology of the name "Balor" means death) who was technically Lugh's grandfather. Lugh was the offspring of the daughter of Balor, and it has been stated in the ancient Irish lore from oral wisdom that has been passed down through poetry, prose, and also in ancient texts, etc. that he was known as "Balor, the Evil Eye," which means Balor was one of the malevolent nonhuman invaders that came into this realm and did much damage and used advanced technology to create evil (or low) magick, which has been often called 'black' magick.

Balor was the leader of this vile army that invaded the lands, and this tale has been told many ways, but the truth is always held within these ancient legends. Many versions state that Balor was the 'leader of a malevolent group of supernatural beings,' which from my Inner Knowing means that this being was but one of the vile invaders and a 'commander' of the evil faction that came in through that stargate to enslave Earth-Tara-Gaia and all of its Living Creation. Balor was a part of the army of Enlil as I've connected this into a far larger story. Enlil was the leader of the far larger invading force that reined hell down upon these lands eons ago. And, in some form, this faction remains to this day. Many call this faction the 'deep state' or those that are called 'elites' for they are of this vile lineage).

I delve more deeply into primordial stories like this within the Wheel of the Year series (more on that below), and also on my Awakening Magick youtube channel that you can find here.

The Lughnasa feast and celebration is also said to have honored not only Mother Earth, but also Tailtiu (said like tall-choo), who is said to be Lugh's foster mother. According to an ancient and pieced together texts (but isn't one book, so to speak) called the "Book of Invasions" (called Lebor Gabála Érenn in Irish),Tailtiu was seen as a mother-goddess figure who committed herself to help in the growing of foods to assist all that lived in the region after Lugh eradicated the vile leader known as Balor (as noted above).

She was so focused on assisting that she sacrificed herself deeply to the cause (and to her detriment) to clear vast areas of land so that it could be cultivated by the humans that lived in those ancient lands. To honor his foster mother’s sacrifice and spirit, it was written that Lugh instituted the Tailtean Games to ensure her memory and legacy lived on (which later became the Scottish Highland Games that still happen to this day).

In the Wheel of the Year celebrations, I offer deeper insights through Primordial Wisdom Storytelling about these kinds of exciting Origin Stories.

Like so many other things from our deep HIStory (that eradicated the true HERstory), the truth lies underneath the written word of the monastic scribes and hidden in memories that many of us share...

The Significance of Lughnasa

Lughnasa is a time to celebrate the first harvest, and to be proud of all the hard work that it takes to make a good harvest come to fruition. Even though many of us are totally disconnected from the land (meaning we do NOT grow and cultivate all of our own food anymore), we can instead choose to honor and respect the hard work we're doing to keep ourselves afloat in a realm that is still held captive by the horrid illusion and enslavement tool that is called money.

When we are all allowed to return to the Sacred Lands without having to work our asses off just to pay for food, rents, mortgages, etc., then we can be free to do the things that truly matter like relearning how to grow our own food, how to create villages, how to build homes that are beautiful once again (and so much more).

I know that humanity can rebuild the core village ways of life again to reconnect deeply with each other in unity.

This first harvest yields are that of grains, barley, and corn and is traditionally a time to bake the first loaves of bread from the first of the harvest. But, more so, it was about coming together to feast together and celebrate as a village.

(Can you imagine the beauty of NOT having to deal with the horrid poisons that we deal with today, like the vile poison called glyphosate, the poisons in our water, or genetically modified foods, etc.?!)

broken image

This festival is about more than just the physical harvest as it’s also a time to reflect on our own harvest; the hard work and achievements we've achieved this year up to this point. It's a time to acknowledge the hard work we’ve put in to manifest our lives to include more harmonious vibrations. As we gather our "crops" in this modern day, it may look VERY different than the ancestors that held these Sacred Day celebrations, but many of us are getting back in tune so that we can live in harmony with the Sacred Energies once again.

All of us that are on the path of reclaiming our birth right as sovereign human beings, we know we need to RElearn how to do EVERYTHING. We need to learn how to grow our own food and be free to do so, how to build homes with true skill and craft, and so much more. Some of you reading this may be a lot further down that "sovereign" road than some of us and perhaps are already living off your land and growing all of your own food. But it is when we come together that we can remember and share the wisdom so that more of us can break free from the binds of the modern day prison created ON PURPOSE to do just that (enslave).

Celebrating Lughnasa

A typical Lughnasadh altar might be decorated with symbols of the harvest: grains, fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Colors like gold, yellow, and orange reflect the warmth and abundance of the season. Candles, crystals, and other objects representing the sun and fire may also be included, acknowledging the waning strength of the sun as we move closer to autumn. These decorations serve as a visual reminder of the season's bounty and the cyclical nature of life.

Rituals often involve giving thanks, making offerings, and reflecting on the blessings and challenges of the year so far. It’s a time to connect with the earth, recognize the cycles of nature, and find gratitude in the present moment. Whether through song, dance, meditation, or storytelling, the spirit of community and gratitude is at the heart of Lughnasadh. These practices help us cultivate a deeper connection to the earth and to each other, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Share Your Harvest in the Spirit of Lughnasa

Lughnasa (or also spelled Lughnasadh) is also a time to embrace the spirit of generosity and community. Sharing YOUR harvest with others, whether through communal meals or by giving to those in need, is a key aspect of this festival, too. This practice reminds us that we are all interconnected and that our well-being is tied to the well-being of the community and the earth. By giving and receiving, we participate in the flow of abundance that Lughnasa celebrates.

Another meaningful way to celebrate this day is by spending time in nature. Walking through fields, forests, or gardens, and observing the changes in the landscape can deepen our appreciation for the natural world. These moments of connection can be deeply restorative and inspiring, reminding us of the beauty and resilience of life.
